Kenaitze Salamatof Housing

The Kenaitze/Salamatof TDHE provides several programs that serve the local Native community.

The Safe Home Program is designed to renovate and repair the homes of Kenaitze and Salamatof Tribal members, as well as, Alaskan Native and Native American Indian homes. The program addresses health and safety issues in the homes. Weatherization is a priority and homes are made handicap accessible, when necessary.

The Rental Assistance Program helps qualified families by assisting them with the payment of their rent. This program, in conjunction with a self-sufficiency plan that is developed by the participant and the appropriate Kenaitze Indian Tribe staff, temporarily aids families while they move toward the goals they have set.

The Buy-Down Loan Program provides assistance to eligible applicants as they purchase and finance a home in the Kenai-Soldotna area. The program is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The Snow Plowing/Sanding Program is available for eligible Elders and handicapped individuals. The program provides the plowing/sanding service at no charge, helping make their winter a little bit easier.

Ames Road Project

Tribal Housing has plans for the old garden and greenhouse site located at the end of Ames Road.  A plan is in the works for an energy and light efficient sustainable community.  The initial phase will be an 8 unit residential complex for income qualified Elders and families to live together in a traditional setting.  We have the site selected, community feedback analyzed, a Project Manager in place, and we expect to have a Site Plan and Blue Prints ready by March 1, 2011.

Our plans for the “Ames Road Project” is to further promote Tribal beliefs and ways by bringing Elders and new families together in a community much like the villages were in days past.  We feel that not only can the young families benefit from the Elder’s experience and wisdom, but also the Elders will be made to feel they are still significant and needed.
